As this morning dawns, as with every morning, you can be sure God’s mercies are new towards you. They are new as the year dawns new. They are new as each moment dawns new.
For you, for your hurting loved one, and for your enemy, too.
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;Lamentations 3:22-23
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
Why Couldn’t I Receive It?
For most of my life, I couldn’t. I could receive the hard times, knowing God was walking with me, but in times of joy, I struggled. I balked at why I couldn’t just enjoy it. Why I couldn’t receive? Why I felt guilty or leery of the other shoe that would drop? I was thinking after every good thing comes something to tear it all away again. I felt like “joy remains for a night and weeping comes in the morning.” Yet God says,
Weeping may tarry for the night,
but joy comes with the morning.Psalm 30:5b
I had things backwards. If you’ve experienced deep hurt, lived with a loved one stuck in the addiction cycle, or care about someone who is perpetuating an abuse cycle that affects you, then you might understand that feeling. The truth is, though, that God loves to bless and is always actively blessing us in ways we might need Him to open our eyes to. (Check out Can you hear God whispering, “I love you!”?
Coming to Terms With Myself
I’ve wrestled and worked through counseling, support groups, a step study, and prayer and submission- and out of necessity over the last year and a half to be able to receive without guilt. -To ask for help and receive it without profusely apologizing for being a human that needs the kindness of a friend during medical and relational trouble.
Grasping Drops Unaware of the Shower
God has used many dear ones to help me grow in this. I feel like He’s shown me He is always raining down blessing on me. I can see myself kneeling in a puddle, trying so hard to protect and preserve one drop of it, as if it’s all on me to save that drop of blessing for the next day. But He just wants me to dance in the rain.
Dance In the Rain
As this new morning of a new year dawns on you, no matter where you’ve been or what you’ve been through, I pray you will be able to dance in the rain. -To ask God for help to open up your heart and receive from God without shame and guilt the blessing He is showering upon you always.
You have nothing in your power to give. No goodness to earn or deserve it. Just yourself- submitted to a merciful God who gave all so you could know Him and have a relationship with Him now and forever. (Check out Got Peace? for more). May you live submitted to the blessing He has to shower upon you today. And may you dance in the rain.
If this encouraged you, please share it with someone you care about.
