I used to think that there was a way outside of His. – That everyone can choose God or not, so naturally, they can choose His Way or not. And if not- well, then there is a place we can go to escape Him and His good rule. It really boiled down to me believing deep down that there was a place we could go in this life where God was not.

It sounds plausable by the way we talk about people, “walking away from God,” or “going their own way.” But the reality is:

Where shall I go from your Spirit?
    Or where shall I flee from your presence?
⁸ If I ascend to heaven, you are there!
    If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!
⁹ If I take the wings of the morning
    and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
¹⁰ even there your hand shall lead me,
    and your right hand shall hold me.
¹¹ If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me,
    and the light about me be night,”
¹² even the darkness is not dark to you;
    the night is bright as the day,
    for darkness is as light with you.

Psalm 139:7-12

The truth is, He is everywhere all the time, and His Way covers all things. You can choose to walk with Him His way and live in the blessings of knowing Him or you can choose to reject Him and live with the consequences of that, but either way, you are under His sovereignty. Either way, you are in His Way. Even if the way you’ve chosen is dark to you, God’s light still penetrates that place. You are in a universe designed and held together by His sovereignty, living a life governed by His sovereignty, and receiving either the blessings or consequences of whether or not you choose to do that with Him His way or not.

I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live, ²⁰ loving the Lord your God, obeying his voice and holding fast to him, for he is your life and length of days
